The apex export organisation has especially applauded the government for granting benefits under market linked focus product scheme at a special rate of 2%.
This benefit is made available on value of exports of all leather items and apparels to the United States (US) and the European Union (EU). Nearly 90% of exports to these markets are constituted by apparel and leather products.
Welcoming the incentives announced under the market linked focus scheme, A Sakthivel, FIEO President, remarked that this move will help Indian exporters enhance their competitiveness in global markets.
The competitiveness of small scale Indian apparel exporters in the US market suffered adversely on account of the stiff competition from Vietnam and Bangladesh. Export volumes of apparel and leather products have also declined considerably in the recent past.
However, the recently announced export sops including the grant of benefits under the market linked focus scheme are expected to offer some relief to the Indian export units.
